Art is a frame. Change the frame, change everything.
The female body has always been material. Jordan Hagan just changes who holds the scissors.
Working in hand-cut collage, she mines vintage imagery, including erotic photography, to expose how framing determines meaning. Extracted from their original context and rebuilt by a woman's hand, these fragments stop being objects and start being arguments. The same image, cut and repositioned, ceases to be an object of consumption and becomes a statement. The body does not change. The power structure around it does.
In an age where images are generated in seconds and filters flatten everything into the same polished surface, Hagan cuts by hand. Deliberately. Irreversibly. The physical act is the point: a blade against paper, a choice that cannot be undone, a texture no algorithm can replicate.
Born in Texas, based in Paris. Making work her mother would not show her friends in Dallas.
